Gunn Foundation’s Mission
To help under-served, college-bound Gunn High School seniors pursue further education and achieve their goals by providing need-based scholarships.
The Gunn Foundation was launched in 1968. We raise funds to provide need-based scholarships to Gunn High School seniors who show aptitude and potential after receiving a world class education from Gunn, to have the opportunity to attend college regardless of their financial circumstances.
The 2017-18 school year will mark 50 years of Gunn Foundation’s scholarship giving. We have provided over 280 students with scholarships since 2004. Over the last 49 years, over 500 students have benefited from the generous donations made possible by members of the Gunn community, Palo Alto and the Bay Area – including parents, teachers, administrators, alumni and neighbors. We thank each and every one of them for their support!
Scholarship recipients are evaluated on academic performance and financial need. Our scholarships provide unrestricted funds for students entering their first year of college. The funds can be used to help with tuition, fees, books, transportation, and other financial impediments to achieving a college degree on a tight budget. Awards range from $500 to $3,500 per student. Applications open in the Spring.
Our 2017 Scholarship Recipients:
This year, $78,000 in scholarships were awarded to 26 deserving students in the Class of 2017, many of whom are first-generation college students who have overcome significant personal and financial challenges to pursue further education.
How your donation can make a difference:
We are grateful to the generous and supportive Palo Alto community and beyond, who want to make college a reality for an under-served, often first-generation college student from Gunn HS. Your donation will provide an invaluable opportunity to our students to attend college with minimal financial burden, and are integral to our foundation’s fundraising efforts.
It’s easy to make a donation. We use PayPal, so you can make your contribution online.
Gunn Foundation Board:
The Foundation’s all-volunteer board is comprised of parents, staff, alumni, and members of the community. Our enthusiastic board members are committed to supporting deserving Gunn High School seniors in achieving their educational goals.
